The Shahada is the first and most important pillar of Islam. It is the foundational statement of faith that brings a person into the fold of Islam.

What is the Shahada?

The Shahada is a simple but profound declaration:

"Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasul Allah."

Translation: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."

Key Aspects of the Shahada

1. Belief in the Oneness of Allah (Tawheed)

• Acknowledges that Allah is the only Creator, Sustainer, and Ruler of the universe.
• Rejects any form of polytheism or idolatry (shirk).
• Affirms that Allah alone deserves worship.

2. Belief in the Finality of Prophethood

• Recognizes Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the last and final messenger of Allah.
• Emphasizes following the teachings of the Prophet as the ideal model for life.

How to Embrace the Shahada

• A person officially becomes a Muslim by sincerely reciting the Shahada. You can recite it alone but it’s recommended to do it in front of witnesses.
